Rage couldn't help it. The smile just came as he watched Rose. He felt pleased as he studied Rose and her child, but a lot of unanswered questions were now coming to the surface, as he watched mother and daughter. He would have to ask Rose later.
As Mrii was leaving, he too felt something...different about her, but he only figured it was an Aquatris thing, until Ruja also perked up. As Ruja questioned Mrii, Rage studied her.
Yes, he had definitely seen people come back from the dead, but in Liberta, as far as he knew, that couldn't happen. Now curiosity was back, and it was driving him crazy.
_____
Austiru listened. Not many Aquatris knew that song, for his father had written it for his mother. He stood and turned to see what Angie was seeing. He stared, partly out of amazement and partly out of fascination.
She was beautiful, and though he knew Mrii the Healer should not intrigue him so, he felt there was more too it. There was.
A Goddess? Austiru was speechless. What had they done to have a Goddess appear?
He suddenly had the urge to kneel. He was in the presence of a powerful being. He knelt on one knee and bowed his head. "My Lady." What else could he say? He was dumbfounded! He wasn't even sure what was happening.

Angie was very stunned herself. So stunned, she couldn't move. A Goddess...how? Why?
Mriita-Solo smiled pleasantly, kneeling in front of Austiru. One delicate hand came to rest under his chin, and gently urged him to look up at her.
"Your song is what attracted me to you, Austiru." She looked at him thoughtfully, seeming to gaze deeply into his eyes. She smiled again. "Austiru, do not sorrow over the loss of Ilu. With or without Ruja's help, he would have died of the sickness that was slowly making him insane." Mriita-Selo frowned as she thought of Ruja, glancing her shoulder back to the castle. Her attention turned back to Austiru, and she removed her hand from under his chin and held one of his hands instead. Her left hand sought out the pocket in her dress, and she pressed something into Austiru's hand, her gentle grip releasing.
When he would look, Austiru would see a fine, intricate golden chain with a delicate clasp. The chain's treasure was a precious pearl, where seemingly fragile golden thread held it in place, then gripping onto the chain for further support.
"Here's your pearl, and mind that you give it to that precious someone." Mriita-Selo said, smiling pleasantly once again. She stood, looking upwards. "Feel free to summon me if needed, Austiru. Your song will always reach my ears. I miss being here...but for now, I must leave. Farewell, Sunrise Angels. Please apologize to Mrii for me--next time I'll come in my own body." There was an audible hint of amusement in her voice at that.
Then there was a brief show of golden, sparkly light, then the woman gasped lightly, stumbling. Angie snapped herself from her shock and held the healer steady. The courtyard was brought back to life, as if nothing had ever happened...as if a Goddess had never been in their midst.
"Oh, I'm sorry...I got a bit light headed." Mrii said, looking a bit confused as she gazed at Austiru and Angie. "I forgot what I was doing...excuse me." Angie almost had the urge to laugh as the suddenly shy woman headed back for the castle. Angie knelt next to Austiru, concerned.
"Austiru? Are you okay?"

As his head was lifted, Austiru stared into her eyes, feeling her search through him. As she spoke he listened, feeling the grief of Ilu's death lift from his heart.
His eyes followed her hand until she touched his. He felt his cheeks turn red, but still he said nothing. Even if she hadn't been a Goddess, he didn't think he'd be able to find his voice.
He had had no idea that his song had such a power. But, it was written from the love of someone dear to him, so maybe it had a power all along. Now he had the Aquatris Goddess watching over him.
While Mriita-Selo bid them farewell, he watched her leave, silently he mouthed the words "Goodbye."
When everything was back to normal, he seemed to snap from his trance. While Angie helped Mrii, He took that time to look at his gift. Pearls were not easy to find, and to find a perfect one was even harder, but here one was, in his hand. He closed his hand around it, thanking Mriita-Selo for coming into his life.
"Austiru? Are you okay?"
He turned to Angie and smiled warmly, his eyes shining with a new light. "Yes Angie, I'm fine. That was amazing!" He was excited. How many people could say that they'd seen a Goddess and been given a special gift in the same moment? "Wow..."
He looked at her eyes. "Are you?"

Angie was taken aback at the light shining from Austiru's eyes. It made her feel light, more complete. That's when she felt it lift--the darkness Nif's words had caused vanished. She smiled, beaming at him.
"Yes, I am!" Which was true. Happily, she threw her arms around his neck and hugged him close, tears of happiness brimming in her eyes. What would she do without Austiru? She couldn't even think about it. But what was important...was that he was here, and now. And they could be together, no matter the obstacles! Austiru was blessed with his song that had summoned the Goddess, and even gave him a gift!
"Hey...what did she give you, anyways?"

He couldn't stop smiling. He could see the brightness in Angie's eyes as well and knew that she would be alright.
He blushed a little as she hugged him, but he remained smiling. He was too gosh darn happy.
When Angie asked him what he had, he opened his hand. "Angie...this is a rare and precious pearl. Someone would have to look in a hundred oysters to find a pearl as perfect as this." as he studied the pearl, he remembered what Mriita had said.
"Here's your pearl, and mind that you give it to that precious someone." At first Austiru had thought it meant to given to his mother, the one the song had been written for first, but as he looked at the precious gem in his hand he realized that it was for his precious someone.
He looked at Angie and he smiled all the brighter. "Angie, I want you to have this pearl. I would rather see it on you then anyone else." He opened her hand and placed the gem in her palm and closed her fingers around it. "It belongs to you."

Angie was struck speechless she she felt the coolness of the pearl slide across her palm, her fingers being closed around the precious item. A pearl was a precious thing, indeed...! Still silent in awe, she put the necklace around her neck. As if it were made especially for her, it fit perfectly and lit up her features considerably. She felt safer, and happier now. Now, both she and Austiru had a connection with the Aquatris Goddess!
"Thank you, Austiru. It means a lot to me. It really does." And she smiled, and knew she'd be happier from here on out.
----
Ruja gazed out the window, sighing gently. Mrii had returned, thoroughly confused about how she had gotten outside. The feeling she had gotten from the healer earlier was gone. It seemed Mriita-Selo had found Mrii perfect, half for the name and half for the healing ability. That Goddess was a sucker for love-ish ordeals. She took her gaze away from the window and looked to Rage. Stars, she had a lot to talk to him about...but she smiled. Rose had fallen asleep in a nice, big chair next to the now slumbering Tlel. Ruja would make sure to come check up on them later. Ruja motioned to Rage, and set out.
Journey turned as Ruja approached him.
"Duke," Ruja acknowledged with a nod of her head. "It's best we get you back before the Queen worries her head off about you being gone for so long. Did the Dioshni get back to the surface okay?"
"Yes, good idea. And yes, all should be back." Journey glanced over to where Angie and Austiru were, as if asking if they should come to.
"No--they'll come when they want to." Ruja answered. She touched Journey's shoulder, and then Rage's. She smiled rather secretly before they disappeared out of sight.
